One year, a whole season, weekly flights, hotels, and trips to the lab, and ultimately a a book - Luis Figo A Year In The Life became reality, following the World Player of the Year for a photographic biography.
At the high point of the Galacticos era, Figo, Zidane, Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos et al, ran riot though European football. On top of that, Portugal not only hosted but made the final of the European Championships, which just extended my stay. That is aside from the infamous England v Portugal game, where superstition led to me staying at home, those images we created from the TV instead.
Still seems surreal now, from the private jets, to the trips to the Barcelona where he’d become the target of flying pigs’s heads, to coming so close to becoming a European Champion with Portugal’s golden generation.
Figo, at the time of the book was the worlds most expensive player, he hated losing with a passion.
